Three's a crowd: Stop, Steer & Stabilise!

Hows your safety triangle?

The "safety triangle," made up of your vehicle's ability to stop, steer and stay stable, is essential to its roadworthiness and safety.

Suspension and shock absorbers don't just make the ride more comfortable; they play a key role in these three aspects of the triangle, protecting you, your passengers and other drivers on the road. Scheduled maintenance and servicing can prevent issues from arising, but if something doesn't seem quite right, contact us right away to have it looked at.

An important part of keeping all aspects of your vehicle working properly is to stick to your regular Log Book servicing schedule. However, if you notice any of the following symptoms you should get your vehicle checked out as soon as possible;

When should you get a service?

In order to keep all your vehicle's systems working smoothly, you should stick to your Log Book servicing schedule. However, if you start to notice any of the following issues, you should have it looked at as soon as possible:

  • Vibration or pulsing of the steering wheel;
  • Sudden nose-diving and swerving when braking or slowing down;
  • Veering when hit with side winds;
  • Rocky, rough rides over bumps, as well as difficulty cornering;
  • Uneven tyre wear;
  • Rattling noises;
  • Clunking noises when driving over bumps;
  • Unusual bouncing, dipping or diving.

Your vehicle's suspension & shock absorbers consist of the following parts:

  • Springs: These can be leaf, coil, torsion bar or air-assisted and are designed to absorb energy. They are set to different levels depending on the type of car; luxury vehicles usually have softer springs for a smoother ride, while sports cars have tighter springs to enable aggressive driving but also result in a bumpier ride.
  • Shock Absorbers: These absorb the energy that is generated from the springs and ensure that the car does not bounce up and down when going over bumps.
  • Struts: These act as both shock absorbers and coil springs and provide additional structural support for the suspension system.
    Anti-Sway Bars: These span across the width of the axle and link the two sides of the suspension together for greater stability.

Our suspension and shock absorber services include inspections, diagnostics, repairs and replacements, so we'll get you back on the road in no time. Don't delay - book an appointment with us today!
